Description

From the producers of Neighbors and the co-screenwriter of Crazy Rich Asians, Joy Ride stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

  • Not Sure What To Think, But It Seems Like An OK R-rated Comedy

I’m honestly not sure what to think about “Joy Ride (2023)” despite the fact that it’s an R-rated comedy movie. I actually kinda wanted to see it when it was released in theaters, but I never got to see it mostly because I was working, at home, & also just managed to pick a different movie to watch instead. I don’t what percentage it scored on Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic, but “Joy Ride (2023)” seems like an OK R-rated comedy movie that looks fun to watch with a seemingly mostly Asian cast. In short, I like “Joy Ride (2023)”.
  • What a joke

I know the movie is meant to be a joke of a movie however I got nothing from this outside of misinformation and pro-Chinese propaganda nonsense. Majority of Chinese do not speak English. You’re required to get a visa upon entry into China. I don’t understand why a law firm is attempting to conduct business in China as a trade deal let alone the current market situation in China is bleak and investors are running away from China? I know the airport scene was a joke but Taiwanese as apart of the PRC is not accurate. Believe it or not the current statistics for tourist arrivals this year sits at a measly 52,000 especially since the new law to report on foreigners being to friendly as they could be spies. Tesla’s were also mentioned and as it stands Tesla’s are band in parts of the PRC for spying capabilities. The movie is a farce and can influence those who are more gullible and not aware of Chinese Psyop activities. I mean with the 9 dash line in Barbie and this blatant rubbish of pro-Chinese propaganda. Hollywood will continue to produce trash like this
  • Unsurprising Story line

The plot was predictable but I felt it was entertaining. It’s not meant to be a Hangover type movie more so Girls Trip level Id sarcasm, whit and banter. Worth the watch, waiting till streaming wouldn’t hurt.

They certainly didn’t invent the wheel with the story line, as it’s the same comedy/sappy storyline we’ve seen a thousand times, however, they did manage to laugh at themselves and their culture, and did so with good comedy and decent acting. We enjoyed it.

Some parts were funny and sentimental, but a lot of raunchy humor with some over exaggerated acting. Some of the humor was being reached for and tried too hard to make a scene funny. It was ok, but not something that I feel needs to be watched again and again.
  • So funny, a must watch!
